Bill Haney Says Teofimo Lopez is in Hiding
Following his last tour of duty in the ring, WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (20-1, 13 KO’s) received another gift decision in the eyes of many, including 3Kings Boxing. There is a healthy contingent of boxing fans who believe this gift swindled Jamaine Ortiz out of victory. And as father and chief second to WBC 140-pound champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KO’s), Bill Haney, told to ThaBoxingVoice that performance illustrates why Team Lopez has never stepped to the plate.
“Well any time that you come out of a fight like that, you figured you could have done more of this or some more of that. Along with Teo, I’m sure Teo feels the same way. But Jamaine [Ortiz], he did a good job and he let the people know there is something about Teo that someone with a little bit more, just a little bit more can upstage him. And we know who that person is, and he goes by the name Devin Haney. And it’s a reason why the Teos and the Teo Seniors have now went radio silent!”
IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO
Sadly, despite both residing in the lightweight division for years, these two top fighters were never able to link up in the ring. Even worse, their rumble at 135 would have crowned a legitimate undisputed champion rather than just falsely claiming the status as The Takeover opted to do.
Haney would go on to earnestly become undisputed after Lopez lost to George Kambosos by then beating Kambosos in back-to-back matches staged in Kambosos’ own Australian homeland. It would be a real shame if the two managed to not satisfy the missed opportunity at 135 at 140. If being honest though, it appears that Team Lopez is the more standoffish of the two sets.
This is evidenced by the frequency that the Lopezs kicks dirt on the notion of a Haney fight. Along with the verbal negativity, Team Lopez first asked for a hair-raising ten million dollar guarantee then later doubled that guarantee figure to a king’s ransom of twenty million dollars.
WISHING ON THEM TWINKLES
Given the reluctance and previous obstacles provided, it is not difficult to believe that The Takeover and crew are not returning calls right now. This is amounting to par for the course. In the end however, let’s hope that the two warring factions can be civil and peaceable enough to get his duel penciled in. No matter what transpires though, 3Kings Boxing will provide you with all things boxing.
