Prospect Brandun Lee needs to go from prospect to contender

The boxing community is eager to see the junior welterweight division undisputed mega-fight between unified champion Jose Ramirez and Josh Taylor. However, rising prospect Brandun Lee (22-0, 20 ko) will be a formidable foe in the division.

On March 10, the hard-punching 21-year-old Lee literally punched his way into the spotlight in an early knock out of the year candidate against Samuel Teah (17-4-1, 7ko). The undefeated prospect’s career has been on the slow path of boxing. However, after taking out the IBF #10 ranked fighter, it is time to take the car out of first gear and open up the engine a little.

The undefeated prospect, with this victory, will undoubtedly be ranked within the top fifteen of the IBF organization. Team Lee will find it hard to keep things under wraps moving forward since they have fought a top 10 fighter. There is no going backward.

POSSIBLE OPPONENTS TO TEST THE YOUNG LION

The division is full of talent and there is no shortage of opponents that can push the young prospect beyond the limit of four rounds. There are former champions ripe for the picking such as Eduard Troyvanovsky, Kiryl Relikh, Viktor Postol, and the ageless Antonio Demarcos. Any of these names would add value to his resume and be a great learning experience for Lee.

Then there are good quality lower-tier fighters like Anthony Yigit, Cletus Seldin, or a prospect versus prospect fight against heavy-hitter Jesus Ramos. The funny thing about the sport is a highly televised knockout can go either of two-ways. Lee can be viewed as a high-risk, low reward given how most of the mentioned names are ranked, and they would not want to lose their place in line.

Second to consider is the growing popularity to see the hard-punching prospect. This can be so high that some fighters will look to take him on to see if they can stop the hype train. Lee needs to capitalize off of such a career-defining moment by looking to move into the deep end of the pool in the division.
