Chantelle Cameron Leaves Matchroom Seeking New Opportunities

One-time junior welterweight undisputed champion Chantelle “Il Capo” Cameron (18-1, 8KO) has departed ways with Matchroom Boxing. Without the possibility of fighting two-division undisputed champion Katie “KT” Taylor, she felt it was time to move on.

The boxing news cycle is buzzing as word spreads that Il Capo will no longer fight under the Matchroom Boxing Banner. There are no hard feelings between the promotional company and the fighter as they both displayed a level of appreciation.

Cameron is coming off a loss in the rematch against the two-divisional undisputed champion in November 2023. With the two amateur rivals split at one victory apiece, a trilogy was going to be next.Things didn’t seem to work the way Il Capo wanted as Team Taylor has decided to forgo the trilogy. It was later announced KT will instead rematch undisputed featherweight champion Amanda Serrano on July 20.

HER NEXT POSSIBLE LOCATION

When speaking with 3Kingsboxing, Cameron credited the trilogy not happening as one of the reasons for leaving.

“I was released two months ago. Without the Taylor trilogy, they didn’t have anything for me. So, I wanted to move to a promoter for a more positive fresh start.”

When looking at the landscape, Cameron has some options. One location is Top Rank, as they have shown to be very effective in getting their female fighters championship fights.

Yet, the more logical choice for Cameron would be Boxxer – a British boxing company that has been making some noise. In addition, she could move up and challenge unified junior middleweight champion Natasha Jonas.

With both fighters under the same banner, this would be an easy, high-profile fight to make that UK fans would pack the arena to see. Whatever she decides to do next, 3Kingsboxing will be waiting to provide any further updates.
