David Morrell Is Unimpressed By Edgar Berlanga
WBA Regular super middleweight champion David Morrell (10-0, 9KO) believes that top contender Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (22-0, 17KO) is easily beatable. Furthermore, the Cuban champion stated that The Chosen One isn’t ready for someone of his caliber.
Berlanga’s name is part of the sweepstakes to fight the undisputed champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez after defeating Padraig McCrory in a title eliminator on February 24. Immediately following his victory, the Brooklyn New Yorker made it clear he was ready to challenge Canelo.
ANOTHER CHAMPION IS WILLING TO STEP IN
If The Chosen One is unsuccessful in landing the fight, Morrell is willing to take him on. While in attendance to witness the Berlanga fight, an unimpressed WBA champion told FightHype, that the Brooklyn New Yorker is easy work.
“I respect him, he’s a good fighter. . . he’s easy money for me. Easy money bro, I tell everybody, I tell you know he’s easy money for me. I’m the best at 168. . .He’s not ready for me.”
When mentioning the names of fighters that are potential candidates to fight Canelo, Morrell’s name is never part of the conversation. He was trying to land a fight with two-time WBC champion and fellow stablemate David Benavidez. However, that fight likely won’t happen, especially given the recent fight news of Benavidez possibly facing Oleksandr Gvozdyk at light heavyweight.
Team Berlanga will probably dismiss the notion of fighting the WBA champion with the possibility of facing Canelo or top contender Jaime Munguia on the table.
In December 2023, the WBA champion was last in the ring, giving challenger Sena Agbeko a thorough beat down in December 2023. Morrell is on the outside looking in on this situation, as there isn’t enough buzz surrounding his name to make it worth while for Team Berlanga.
