Eddie Hearn Sounds Off on Tank Davis Moving Up
Boxing certainly has its fair share of problems to wrestle with. However, there is one issue that is undoubtedly the most discouraging at present. Namely, the very public dispute of trying to make a unification fight between WBA Junior lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis and IBF champion Tevin “American Idol” Farmer.
These two champions have been beefing on social media for years. Just as well, their respective promotional teams have also gone back and forth. Ultimately, the end result has robbed the fans of a potential great fight since Davis is moving up in weight.
DAZN/Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn would finally speak, displaying visible frustration about the whole ordeal in a recent Fighthype interview.
“They never even negotiated. I said $5 million, he [Davis] wanted $10 million. Can we meet in the middle?”
“But he was told not to. He was told to move and he’s done what he’s told.”
There are many within the boxing community that agree with this sentiment. However, the saving grace is that a fight with arguably the sport’s #1 pound for pound fighter and unified lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko is in the works for Davis. At least, that’s the wishful thinking of the boxing community, as its the only fight that will erase the recent debacle.
3kingboxing reported that an agreement has been reached where the undefeated fighter from Baltimore will face former two-time featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa.
It’s an introduction fight into the division. However, the entire boxing community will be paying very close attention to the moves of team Davis, provided a victories outcome.
