Deontay Wilder Setting Up Two-Fight Contract With Joshua
According to former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KO’s), he is working on a two fight deal with Anthony “AJ” Joshua (26-3, 23 KO’s). If everything goes according to plan, then Wilder would clash with the former two-time heavyweight champion first in Saudi Arabia and then later in Africa. Wilder laid out the tentative plan in an informal Q&A with EsNew.
“Everybody knows about the Joshua situation, that’s serious, that’s real and that’s the one that’s up next. We’re looking forward to that. I will be getting in camp real soon for that, I’ll be promoting that in the next few months or so, and we’ll finally get that showdown on once and for all. I think it’ll be a great fight between me and him. I’m actually working on a two-fight deal with me and Joshua – one up in Saudi Arabia and the other one, we are going back to the motherland, Africa!”
TAKING THE SHOW ON THE ROAD
Wilder recently was trying to pen a match with one time heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz. Unfortunately the two teams could not find any common ground when it came to the financial aspect of the contest. Wilder felt that Ruiz should be content with what he was being offered while Ruiz was determined to get a substantial payday. Ultimately, Team Wilder did not feel he was worth economic strain and moved on. At the moment, neither fighter has a formally announced match to speak of.
For his part, AJ is coming off a successful knockout win over former Wilder opponent Robert Helenius. Following a methodical in-ring execution, Joshua was able to flatten the seasoned warrior with a single right hook in the seventh round. While some were critical of the time it took to get the stoppage, since Wilder KO’d Helenius in the first round of their 2022 duel, AJ was happy to get in the rounds. The UK bruiser is still getting used to his new lead trainer, Derrick James.
