Devin Haney Doesn’t Care To Be Anything Like Tank Davis
WBC junior welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15KO) continues to be in a war of words with multi-divisional champion Abdul “Tank” Wahid, formerly Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27KO), and the social media battleground is ablaze.
A boxing enthusiast on social media recently brought attention to a tweet by Tank, stating both Haney and WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson aspire to emulate him.
“All them lil niggas wanna be like me . . . I’m their biggest test . . . so they don’t want to admit but you can peep.”
Abdul Wahid aka Gervonta Davis
The Dream wasted no time in responding, asserting that Tank is all bark and no bite.
It’s no secret that the animosity between these two champions dates back to their amateur days, revolving around sparring sessions in Hall of Fame inductee Floyd Mayweather’s gym. The stories about who got the better of the exchanges vary depending on the source, but their rivalry has unmistakably spilled over into the professional ranks in a significant way.
STOP TALKING AND MAKE THE FIGHT
Both champions secured notable victories in 2023. In April 2023, Wahid stopped top junior welterweight contender Ryan Garcia. However, he spent the rest of the year sidelined dealing with out of the ring issues.
Haney, on the other hand, earned a nomination for Fighter of the Year, by defending the undisputed lightweight crown and defeating two-time champion Regis Prograis. In addition, The Dream is reportedly set to face his arch-amateur rival Garcia, as boxing fans are eagerly anticipating the clash.
Fans have grown tired seeing them exchanging verbal blows on social media instead of in the ring. In 2024, the top priority for both teams should be to make the fight. However, the boxing community remains skeptical, and no one will be holding their breath.
