Diego Pacheco Wins Unanimous Decision Over Steven Nelson
In his latest tour of duty, highly touted super middleweight boxer Diego Pacheco (23-0, 18 KO’s) overcame a rugged Steven “So Cold” Nelson (20-1, 16 KO’s) by way of unanimous decision. Nelson would actually find a great deal of success in the early rounds by bouncing, circling and darting in behind double and triple jabs.
Sufficiently warmed up, Pacheco’s offense began clicking in the third and fourth periods. Even worse for Nelson, a stiff right hand slashed open a cut on his left eye in the fourth. Over the next several rounds the tide of the duel shifted dramatically in Pacheco’s favor. The main source of So Cold’s woes was his inability to consistently get into punching range. His short arms and oftentimes inaccurate punches didn’t help his cause.
From the mid-way point heading into the final stretch, Nelson enjoyed spotty success but nothing long lasting. In the final round however, a bloody and beleaguered Nelson clocked and notably buzzed Pacheco with a slew of left hooks. The #1 (WBO), #3 (WBC) and #6 (IBF) ranked boxer would weather the storm, yet a great deal of the luster was scuffed off his name. Nevertheless, when the duel went to scorecards, Pacheco prevailed with all three cards reading 117-111 in his favor.
