Diego Torres And Argi Cortes Nab Wins on Munguia v Coria Card!
KNOCKOUT MACHINE RUNNING SMOOTHLY!
On the undercard of Munguia versus Coria, lightweight boxer Diego “Azabache” Torres (16-0, 15 KO’s) continued to impress. In that contest, Torres dismantled and stopped a game Hector Morales in four short rounds. The prizefight marked the third contest of the year for Torres. Yet, this was actually a much tamer pace than the six-fight 2021 year that he staged.
To date however, Torres has fought every one of his sixteen fights in his native Mexico. It will be interesting to see if Azabache makes his US debut in the New Year. No matter who he tangles with however, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
CLOSE CALL!
In the co-main event of the Munguia versus Coria headline bout, super flyweight fighter Argi Cortes (24-3-2, 10 KO’s) was hoping to make a strong showing. This is because Cortes, 27, entered the match versus Erick Lopez coming in straight off a unanimous decision loss to Juan Francisco Estrada. Trained by famed and respected chief second Nacho Bernstein, Cortes took the match with Estrada on short notice because of the supreme opportunity that it represented. Unfortunately, the cards did not fall in his favor.
Things did not improve greatly during his duel with Lopez. Perhaps it was due to the two being long-time sparring partners, but the actual match was evenly contested, often ugly and certainly didn’t show Cortes to be a world beater at the current moment. To his credit though, Cortes repeatedly had to show composure as he suffered two questionable knockdowns and contended with Lopez’s constant roughhouse tactics. During the final rounds however, Cortes, ranked #13 (WBC) and #14 (WBO), did find a good groove and finished the bout in strong fashion. It will be interesting to see who Cortes collides with next.
