Will Dina Thorslund Claim Undisputed at 118 Over Johnson?

For Dina Thorslund, the upcoming showdown with undisputed bantamweight champion Cherneka Johnson is about much more than world titles. It is an opportunity to reclaim the position she believes was never taken from her inside the ring.

Before life interrupted her career, Thorslund stood atop the bantamweight division as the unified (WBC/ WBO) champion. Undefeated and widely regarded as one of the best female fighters in boxing, the Danish star appeared poised to cement her legacy with a blockbuster unification bout against IBF champion Shurretta Metcalf in July 2025.

A FULL-CIRCLE MOMENT

Instead, Thorslund (24-0, 9 KOs) was forced to vacate her championships after discovering she was pregnant with her second child. It should have been one of the happiest moments of her life, but the joy ultimately turned into heartbreak when the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. Following the devastating loss, Thorslund eventually returned to the ring, determined to continue the career that had been put on hold through no fault of her own.

During her absence, Johnson (19-2, 8 KOs) seized the opportunity as she ended up dominating Metcalf to become the undisputed champion at 118. Now, nearly everything has come full circle. Johnson is set to defend those same titles against the woman many believe never truly lost them in competition. That reality makes this one of the most compelling fights in women’s boxing.

SO MUCH IS ON THE LINE

A victory would restore Thorslund to the top of the bantamweight division. It would also reinforce her status as one of the elite pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. Her unbeaten record, championship pedigree, and technical brilliance have never been questioned. The only thing missing was the opportunity to reclaim what circumstances forced her to surrender.

For Johnson, this is a chance to validate her reign against arguably the division’s most accomplished rival. For Thorslund, however, the stakes are even greater. This isn’t simply about becoming champion again. It’s about proving that the woman who once ruled the bantamweight division is still the fighter everyone else must beat.

On August 8, Dina Thorslund can finish the comeback story that began the moment she was forced to walk away from the titles she never lost in the ring.
