Eddy Reynoso Ends 2021 As the Hands Down Trainer of Note

In the sport of boxing, it’s remarkably easy to only fixate on the fighters and lose sight of the teams behind them. This is unsurprising given how far out front the boxers are presented to the fans and boxing public. Even so, it’s imperative to retain an appreciation for those individuals who help prepare the fighters for combat. Of this supporting cast, the chief second is of paramount importance. Even still, one trainer that has often flown under the radar is Eddy Reynoso.

Some might wonder how Reynoso was ever able to have a lack of recognition given his talent and results. The main reason for this, ironically, is due to Reynoso training boxing cash cow and the face of the sport, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.  Sure, Reynoso’s name is often thrown around. However, traditionally the bulk of attention was slathered on Alvarez himself.

Times have changed! For one, Reynoso was instrumental in leading Canelo into being a four-division world champion and the current undisputed super middleweight champion. Alvarez is actually the first undisputed 168-pound champion in history. Furthermore, he is the first Mexican undisputed champion in boxing history!

OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS BESIDES TRAINING CANELO

Obviously, Canelo is a wonderful feather in Reynoso’s professional cap. Yet he is far from the only marquee fighter in his stable. Other fighters from that turned in big performances in 2021 include Oscar Valdez and Frank Sanchez.

Sanchez won a huge bout in a battle of two unbeaten, hard-hitting heavyweights where the winner would be seen as the possible future of the division. He handily out-boxed Efe Ajagba to a dominant ten-round unanimous decision. The win catapulted the Cuban to a top five ranking in two of the four major sanctioning bodies.

Valdez became a two-division champion when he knocked off the longest reigning champ at lightweight in Miguel Berchelt with an impressive tenth round knockout. The win has been nominated as 3kingsboxing.com’s 2021 Knockout of the Year! Additionally, Valdez went on to defend his title against amateur rival and then undefeated top contender Robson Conceicao.

With all these glossy accolades, Eddy Reynoso was the easy pick for 3Kings Boxing’s Trainer of the Year award!
