Edgar Berlanga responds to David Benavidez criticism, calls him a hater!
Rising super middleweight prospect Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (16-0, 16KOs) has gained a tremendous amount of attention due to his one hundred percent knockout ratio. The hard-hitting Brooklyn native has displayed that brute power on ESPN in his last few fights. Another thing impressive about the power of Berlanga is that it has allowed him not to go past the first round in any of his sixteen bouts, thus far in his four year career.
However, with the praise comes its fair share of criticism, which Berlanga is not above whatsoever. Former WBC Super Middleweight champion David “Red Flag” Benavidez (23-0, 20KOs) is not nearly as impressed as others are with Berlanga in particular his quality of competition. He would go on to label the hard-hitting prospects competition as “bums”.

Speaking with Brian Custer on The Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer, Berlanga would respond.
HE’S HATING!
“Haha, I just laugh! You know, look at the first sixteen opponents he’s fought and look at the first sixteen opponents I’ve fought. You know at the end of the day, for me, he’s hating. He sees the buzz that I’m getting. You know, and for a guy like him to be calling me out and wanting to fight and his father hitting me up, I must be doing something right. So at the end of the day man, you know he got to respect it. He know what it is already.
At the end of the day, he knows eventually that fight with me and him should happen. God willing, it will happen. It’s going to be big for the fans man, but for him saying that, he should really take a step back and understand that and look into the boxrec and understand the first sixteen opponents he’s fought and the first sixteen opponents I’ve fought. You know I’ve been fighting guys with winning records, that’s never been stopped before.”
Both Berlanga and Benavidez possess fight-changing power, but a fight between them is a ways away. While Berlanga has looked good so far, it is clearly time for him to step up his quality of competition. He needs rounds under his belt and to know how it feels to overcome true adversity in the ring. This is especially true if he wants to fight the elite guys in his division like he has stated before.
