Erick Rosa Within Reach of a Title Fight With Kenshiro Teraji
Time waits for no man, including unbeaten and former WBA Regular minimumweight champion Erick Rosa (6-0, KOs). A frustrated fighter during his days at 105, the 24-year-old is campaigning at 108 with an eye on a fight with unified junior flyweight champion Kenshiro “The Amazing Boy” Teraji (23-1, 14 KOs).
Rosa made his junior flyweight debut on April 5 with a hard-fought twelve-round unanimous decision victory over former world minimumweight title challenger Yudel Reyes in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Reyes was the aggressor throughout their a spirited battle.
But bolstered by his home crowd, Rosa gutted out the victory in one of the toughest fights of his career. He won a regional WBA title – the WBA Gold junior flyweight title – with the win.
THE MISSION IS CLEAR
In January 2024, Rosa vacated the WBA Regular 105-pound strap. The main reason for this decision was the repeated failed attempts to land a match with the WBA minimumweight champion, Knockout CP Freshmart.
Currently ranked number one by the WBA at junior flyweight, Rosa is in a prime position for a fight with The Amazing Boy. Look for the WBA to name Rosa as Teraji’s mandatory challenger in the upcoming months. The Dominican fighter would have no problems traveling to the champion’s home country of Japan to fight him.
Rosa is one of the least talked-about fighters in the lower-weight divisions. But he has the speed and boxing skills that could give the junior flyweight champion difficulty. A win over Teraji would raise his profile. He hopes to land a fight with the unified champion by the end of this year.
