Erickson Lubin Boasts on his Staying Power at Super Welterweight

Super welterweight contender Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (25-2, 18 KO’s) is committed to the quest of becoming a champion. He had one attempt thwarted by undisputed 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo back in 2017. Lubin later stumbled over another hurdle in the form of Sebastian Fundora (20-1-1, 13 KO’s). Despite these setbacks, The Hammer is consistent in his insistence that he will be a champion. And as he explained to Mill City Boxing, he has already outlasted many of his fellow fighters.

“There is a lot of fights, guys like [Errol] Spence is coming up, Spence and [undisputed welterweight champion Terence] Crawford are coming up, so this weight class is back lit. I was around when Julian Williams was on top, Jarrett Hurd was on top, all those other guys were on top but they faded and I’m still around. Most of those guys, they fell off or they are at a difference weight class and I am still here!”

WHAT’S THE MOVE?!

To his credit, Lubin has bounced back into the win column having recently bested Luis Arias. Currently The Hammer is ranked, #6 (WBC) and #9 (WBO), which means that he is still very much a main player when it comes to title contention. With these standings, he could reasonably and strategically campaign to face Charles “Bad News” Conwell (18-0, 13 KO’s) who is ranked #1 (WBC), #3 (WBO) and #7 (IBF). Not only is this a great fight, if victorious, Lubin would certainly climb in the rankings.

Of course, The Hammer could chase the rematch with Sebastian Fundora, ranked #5 (WBC), who is himself coming off his first professional loss to Brian Mendoza. Like the potential duel with Conwell, a prizefight with Fundora would both be crowd pleasing and professionally advantageous. For the time being however, we will have to wait and see what is next for Erickson Lubin.
