Chris Eubank Jr still wants to get Gennady Golovkin in the ring!

When UK boxer and former world title contender Chris Eubank Jr (29-2, 22 KO’s) chose to relocate to America he did so with big fights on his mind. Thus far in his career the truly historic prizefights that he’s sought out have remained elusive which has kept the son of a legend vexed.

Thankfully for him, Eubank Jr. earnestly believes that his luck in the matter will soon change.

One reason that he thinks he’ll land a meaningful bout is due to how close he was to landing one before. While conducting an exclusive interview with Fight Hub TV Eubank Jr reminisced on the time that he almost inked a contract to face Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KO’s).

THINKING OF GGG

Of the all many ways that you can describe Chris Eubank Jr one thing you cannot label him is “not confident”. As a second generation fighter, he has spent his entire life submerged in the world of boxing. Therefore, once he decided to give it a go himself, naturally he wanted to make the biggest events possible to leave his own unique mark on the sport.

In an effort to accomplish this task he began calling out the destructive current IBF middleweight champion a number of years ago. If not for an unforeseen last minute curve-ball, Eubank Jr is confident that he would have already secured that career altering dustup.

“I don’t know Golovkin but I believe, I would imagine that he does live the life so I think that he will be able to carry on and be effective for a couple more years. He is always going to be dangerous but I believe that he is there to be taken.

“I would love that fight because I was supposed to fight him a couple years ago. The fight was like this close to being made and then Eddie Hearn gave the fight to Kell Brook.”

CAPTION OF MY OWN SHIP!

Not one to cry over spilled milk, Eubank has moved on from the lost fight. When the fight crumbled to dust in his hands, however, he did walk away with a few less than favorable thoughts regarding former welterweight champion Kell “The Special One” Brook (39-2, 27 KO’s).

“Kell Brook is a ‘Yes’ man. I am not a ‘Yes’ man. There were things in the contract that you know, I am not going to sell my soul for a fight. So, we were smoothing, the two teams were smoothing out the contract and we were this close and Kell Brook comes along, ‘whatever you want sir! Give me the fight!’ And Eddie said this is the easy option so I am just going to you.

“So it always gets to me that I missed out on that opportunity but the opportunity is still there, he’s still fighting. So that fight can definitely still be made and I would love the opportunity to share the ring with him.”

Only time will tell if given this second opportunity Eubank Jr can actually score this much coveted showdown with Golovkin. It should be noted that Eubank Jr is currently not ranked in the top fifteen by the IBF at middleweight.
