Will Deontay Wilder Return to Face the Unified Heavyweight Champ Usyk or Joshua?
According to veteran boxing manager Shelly Finkel, Bronze Bomber fans will soon have a reason to rejoice. This is because Finkel has told Planet Sport that one-time heavyweight champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KO’s) will be staging a return to the ring. This is a huge change of pace because over the last few months, Wilder has been extremely reluctant to give any kind of indication that he was returning to the sport at all. Even richer is he could be looking to fight for the unified heavyweight championship.
The heavy-handed Alabaman had just suffered back-to-back knockout losses in his last two fights at the hands of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Prior to the bloody defeats, The Bronze Bomber had firmly established himself as a fan friendly knockout machine. During his own tenure as the WBC heavyweight champion, Wilder racked up an impressive ten consecutive title defenses.
BOMBS AWAY?!
Provided that Wilder does indeed glove-up again, Finkel has let it be known that he will be looking for a major fight. In fact, The Bronze Bomber is eyeing the winner of Anthony Joshua versus unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. Wilder apparently would even be interested in a fourth duel with Tyson Fury.
“Maybe the winner of Usyk and Joshua. I don’t know what Fury is doing. Maybe if Joshua wins, it’s a huge fight in the UK – there’s so many intangibles so we’re looking to see what happens in that fight [Usyk and Joshua]. I don’t care what Fury says, we’re waiting to see what he really wants to do because if he wants to fight the winner, then he’s going to get it. But after that, where are the top guys? There’s only four real top guys in the heavyweights right now – Usyk, Joshua, Fury and Deontay [Wilder].”
It will be interesting to see if there is anything more formal announced in the upcoming days and weeks.
