Carl Frampton reflects on Josh Warrington loss

Carl “The Jackal” Frampton (28-2, 15KOs) returns on November 30 against the unbeaten and hungry Tyler McCreary (17-0-1, 7KOs).

The Jackal is has held titles in two divisions and hopes to move towards winning one in a third. However, he is in the midst of a crossroads bout with a skilled fighter who is six years his junior!

His last fight came in December 2018 where he challenged IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington (30-0, 7KO). In that fight he was thoroughly defeated. It was so bad that it left people questioning if “The Jackal” could still cut it at the elite level.

Well Frampton did a little bit of reflecting on that loss in an interview with Fight Hub Tv.

“I think I probably was the slight favorite going into that fight. I always knew it was going to be a difficult fight. Josh was very fit and physical.

“I think what I done and it was wrong is that I underestimated his punching power. There’s nothing that really suggests he’s a puncher on his record. He hit me in the first round and I’ve never been hit like that before in my life. He kind of hit me in the second round and my game plan went out the window.

“By the fourth round I felt like I had done about ten rounds already. I think the game plan we came up with as a team because he shook me up so early didn’t allow me to carry on with that. I think if I could’ve done that from the start I could’ve won the fight. I still think that’s a fight I can win if I get the option.

“Josh won the fight fair and square. It was a good fight. I think the people enjoyed it. It just wasn’t my best performance.”

A HIGH STAKES BOUT

You have to give Frampton credit for being so transparent about what happened on that December 22 night.

Much looms ahead if he gets by McCreary, as most expect he will. At stake are a title shot and a chance to become a three-division world champion. Bob Arum who co-promotes Frampton has stated that he has strong interest in making a WBO title bout with Jamel Herring next, an opportunity Frampton is eager to welcome.
