Tyson Fury Wants the Trilogy Fight
When WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (30-0-1, 21 KO’s) took on Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KO’s) the bout was the living definition of ‘a boxer versus a puncher’. At the conclusion of the match, which ended in an unsatisfying draw, nothing much was proved. Fury was able to outbox the Alabaman for large stretches and the former WBC champion was able to put the Gypsy King down twice.
This is precisely why, going into the rematch, the general consensus saw either Fury winning by decision or Wilder prevailing by way of knockout. So, when the Manchester native thoroughly brutalized and stopped the Bomber, it truly shocked many.
Now, when thinking about a trilogy, outside of his die-hard fan base, most view Fury as a huge betting favorite. Some have taken this assumption so far to heart that they feel the trilogy is not necessary. Yet, as he revealed to iFL TV, The Gypsy King is certainly not one of those people!
MUCH RESPECT IS DUE
“Yeah, I want to fight Deontay Wilder again because there hasn’t been a trilogy in the heavyweight division, forgive me if I am wrong, but since like Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier…it’s been a long time. I want to put a trilogy into this generation and I owe Deontay Wilder. Let’s not forget yeah, Deontay Wilder manned up, he stepped up to the plate twice. He gave me a shot at the WBC title, made me a lot of money and I am returning the favor.
I made him a lot of money twice as well, more money than he ever made, more money than I ever made. And, I think in the third fight we’ll make a lot of money as well, so I think we owe it to it each other. I think we’ve been great dance partners, he’s been a worthy dance partner for me. And he’s been a good talker, he’s held his end of the bargain for sure!
And I don’t think I’ll ever get a dance partner like Deontay Wilder again; not in my era anyway because he can talk the talk, he can walk the walk and he can definitely shake the shake!”
CONFIDENCE IS KEY
Then again, it really isn’t a bad idea to grab a big bag of money when you’re confident that nothing will go wrong! And this is exactly the mindset that Fury will carry into his potential final installment with the Bronze Bomber. Even amidst his near cocky attitude however, the Gypsy King is mindful to remember that the Alabaman is not to be approached lackadaisically.
[On how Wilder can beat him] “He can’t! He can’t beat me and neither can the rest of them…He can’t beat me and that’s just the facts of the matter, Deontay Wilder can’t beat Tyson Fury, that I can see anyway. Listen, he can land a big punch on me, anyone can, they’ve all got the same chance these heavyweights.”
“They’ve all got punchers chances to land big shots on me, but you know, we are all heavyweights we can all land big shots, as we’ve seen. It only takes one shot to put a man down, as I’ve been down how many times? I was down against [Neven] Pakjik, I was down against [Steve] Cunningham and I was down twice against Deontay Wilder, so the odds are probably in Deontay Wilder’s favor!”
“For any man in history to have knocked me down twice, so yeah. I think he maybe could do it again! If he hits me correct. I think he could knock a bull over if he hit it on the point of the chin correctly. Wilder, he’s got immense power, and speed and his accuracy and he’s got an unorthodox style which you don’t see the punches coming which is very, very difficult to defend against if you’re not one hundred percent focused.”
