Galahad v Dickens II to Headline Week 2 of Matchroom Boxing’s 2021 Fight Camp

Matchroom Boxing CEO Eddie Hearn has announced that “Kid” Galahad (27-1, 16 KOs) will face James “Jazza” Dickens (30-1, 7 KOs) for the vacant IBF World Featherweight title. The fight will take place on August 7 at the Matchroom Fight Camp headquarters in Brentwood, Essex, England. Galahad v Dickens headlines the second card of Matchroom’s Fight Camp series live on DAZN.

As the IBF’s mandatory featherweight challenger, Galahad is hungry to win a world title. It is the 31-year-old’s second attempt at the IBF 126 pound world title. In his previous title try, he lost a close, disputed decision to then-IBF Featherweight titleholder Josh Warrington. Galahad desperately wanted a rematch. The IBF ordered that encounter in January of 2021. However, Warrington decided to vacate the title to the bitter disappointment of Galahad.

For Dickens, this is also his second try at a world title. In July 2016, he retired after two rounds due to a broken jaw in a fight against then-WBA ‘Super’ World Super Bantamweight champ Guillermo Rigondeaux. Then in his next outing, he lost a technical decision to Thomas Patrick Ward in May of 2017. However, the 30-year-old has picked himself up and won his last nine fights. He is currently ranked third by the IBF at 126 pounds.

There is prior history between Galahad and Dickens. In September of 2013, Galahad defeated Dickens by hard-fought, tenth-round TKO. That backdrop will serve as extra motivation for both men heading into this battle. Can Galahad once again show he is the better fighter? Can Dickens learn from his mistakes in their previous match nearly eight years ago? We will all find out on August 7.
