Eduardo Garcia Wants Mikey to Fight Pacquiao, Not Spence!

Mikey Garcia, Manny Pacquiao, Errol Spence

The most trusted advisers of Garcia want him to fight Manny Pacquiao, but he still wants Spence!

Sources close to Mikey Garcia are trying to convince him to pursue a fight against the legendary Manny Pacquiao. Father of Mikey, Eduardo Garcia, told reporters he believes the timing is perfect.

Manny turns 40 this December and aside from his last fight, he has not stopped anyone since his TKO victory over Miguel Cotto in 2009. Eduardo has trained fighters for over 25 years.

He is quite seasoned in the fight game and states that his experience in the sport has taught him that historically, fighters who compete over their natural weight class for extended periods of time have a harder time competing at the elite levels at an older age.

He states:

“That’s why weight classes were invented.”

Even though Mikey’s trustees are advising him to fight Manny, he is remaining adamant in fighting Spence (24-0, 21 KOs). There is no doubt that Garcia’s ring IQ coupled with his technical ability makes him one of the best fighters in the sport today.

However, as his father stated, weight classes were invented for a reason.

Nevertheless, one must give Garcia credit for pushing himself to the limit and wanting a fight against the best. There is something he sees in Spence that he believes he can exploit. At this moment, he is keeping that secret to himself.

There is a saying in life, “There is no large reward unless you take large risks.” Let’s hope for Garcia’s case that in this gamble the house doesn’t win!
