Ryan Garcia Leaves Room for Only Tank Davis at Lightweight!

In the build-up to his super lightweight rumble with one-time super featherweight champion Javier Fortuna, Golden Boy Promotions fighter Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (23-0, 19 KO’s) promised a knock out. The popular boxer believed that his speed and power would simply be too much. In the end, Garcia was 100% correct. He would go on to drop Fortuna three times en route to a sixth round stoppage.

Prior to either pugilists getting into the ring however, El Abejon was having difficulty making weight. So much so that the bout, which was originally contracted to take place at lightweight, was reclassified as a super lightweight match. Being that he was no small 135-pounder, King Ry discovered that competing in the next division up suited him very well. In fact, Garcia has no intentions on returning to the lightweight division.

“I felt way better! I am not going back down to 135 for nothing, but I will fight Tank next!”

While King Ry was rather adamant about his moving up in weight, he was equally clear on the matter he would return to lightweight for one fight only. If given the opportunity, Garcia would make the sacrifice to compete at 135 in order to face Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KO’s). It will be interesting to see if that significant prizefight is actually put together as this is one long talked-about dustup.
