Kambosos Looking To Use Hughes As A Stepping Stone To A World Title!

On July 22, former unified lightweight champion “Ferocious” George Kambosos Jr. (20-2, 10 KO’s) will compete for the first time since suffering back-to-back losses to current undisputed champion Devin Haney. Now, the Australian is returning to American to change his luck versus IBO lightweight champion Maxi “Maximus” Hughes (26-5-2, 5 KO’s).

DO OR DIE

Unlike Kambosos, Maximus, ranked #9 (IBF) and #12 (WBC), is currently riding a 3-year, 7 fight win streak since losing to Liam Walsh back in 2019. Although, this will be the first time the UK fighter will test his might in America. After briefly contemplating retirement, Hughes collected a career best win over Kid Galahad. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how Hughes handles himself defending on the foreign soil.

Naturally, having once been a unified champion, Kambosos is aching to wrap a title around his waist once again. Let him tell it, that’s exactly what he is going to do on July 22. If Ferocious were to lose this upcoming duel, however, then his career would no doubt be cast in limbo.

Suffering three consecutive losses could prove to be too difficult to recover from. So, with so much riding on the line for each competitor it will be revealing to see how the contest resolves itself.
