GGG Looking Past Canelo Already

GGG

GGG seems to already be looking ahead to future opponents.

WBC and WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin says he prefers a fight with WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders next.

Currently, Jermall Charlo is the WBC mandatory and Ryota Murata is the WBA secondary champion. These fights don’t interest Golovkin now as he states he wants all of the belts.

3kingsboxing.com reported last month that Golovkin-Saunders had a deal in place if negotiations between himself and Canelo Alvarez fell through. Obviously that didn’t happen as the two are scheduled to meet in their highly anticipated rematch September 15.

A fight between Golovkin and Saunders would be a unification bout that would appeal to a lot of fight fans.

Consequently, it lost a little value in terms of being a bout that would name an undisputed champion. The IBF stripped Golovkin for not agreeing to face mandatory Sergey Derevyanchenko by August 3.

Above all, Golovkin has to take care of business against Canelo or there won’t be a Saunders unification bout.
