Roman Gonzalez v Julio Cesar Martinez Set for March 5!
Initially set to face long-time rival Juan Francisco Estrada (42-3, 28KOs) in a rubber match on March 5 before Covid-19 postponed their fight, four-division world champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (50-3, 41KOs) will now be facing another Mexican champion in WBC flyweight champ Julio Cesar Martinez (18-1, 14KOs). The fight will take place March 5 in San Diego, California and air live on DAZN.

WHAT A REPLACEMENT!
With this fight being finalized, fight fans can find happiness and excitement in the alternative fight for Gonzalez. Both fighters have fan-friendly styles and possess fight-changing power. Martinez will be moving up three pounds from 112 to 115. A win for him would boost his resume tremendously. Already viewed as a top tier fighter, a win over a future Hall of Fame fighter who revitalized his career would truly announce his stay as a top fighter.
Since arriving on the grand stage, Martinez has been nothing short of impressive. While he completely thumped former WBC flyweight champion Charlie Edwards all around the ring in their August 2019 fight, the bout would be ruled a no-contest after Martinez hit Edwards while he was down. However, that only temporarily derailed him from becoming champion.
In his next fight, he became the first fighter to stop Cristofer Rosales to win the vacant WBC flyweight title. He has made three title defenses to date, with his last fight ending in a no-contest against McWilliams Arroyo due to a cut.
For Gonzalez, putting an exciting young champion on the rise on his resume would further support the fact that he’s back and here to stay for the time being. After his Fight of the Year battle with Estrada, he’s hungry for more. Especially considering he feels he won the second bout with Estrada.
