Recaps of the under-card bouts preceding Bryant Jennings vs Oscar Rivas

The top rank undercard featured some new faces along with a former world champion. All contenders were hoping to boost their careers with victories tonight.

Carlos Adames vs Juan Ruiz

32 year-old junior middleweight from Mexico Juan Ruiz, would face upcoming undefeated prospect Carlos Adames; a 24 year-old Dominican boxer.

Ruiz would use all twelve years of his experience early against the younger fighter; confusing him with the jab.

However, Adames would quickly make the adjustment in the third round. He came out very aggressive in the southpaw stance, landing the straight left against a retreating opponent and ending the fight with a beautiful hook to the body. It was a beautiful showcase bout for the undefeated Dominican, whose stock is on the rise.

Fazliddin Gaibnazarov vs Ricardo Garcia

The next fight was a super lightweight bout featuring 2016 Gold medalist and undefeated southpaw Fazliddin Gaibnazarov against battle-tested veteran Ricardo Garcia.

It was clear from the opening bell Gaibnazarov was the superior fighter. He utilized beautiful footwork to control his opponent, while throwing combinations from different angles and landing counters.

Garcia was game fighting back, but was hurt and eventually dropped in the third. He would survive only to be on bad legs in the fourth, prompting the corner to stop the fight.

Gaibnazarov would look promising in getting the victory in a good step-up bout. Fans will no doubt show interest in following his career.

Jason Sosa vs Moises Delgadillo

The next contest was in the super-featherweight division. It would feature former WBO champion Jason Sosa against Moises Delgadillo.

Sosa, is on a rebuilding phase for his career since losing the title to pound-for-pound fighter Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Things would get worse, as another loss would follow to former unified champion Yuriorkis Gamboa. This would present yet another career setback.

Delgadillo, even with a record of 17-18 with 9 knockouts, didn’t come to lay down. He took the fight to the former champion, causing a cut on the nose in the first round. He then scored a knockdown with a well placed left hook in round two.

It became a phone booth fight with both men landing heavy and hard punches. As the bout continued into the middle rounds, the former champion started finding a rhythm. He targeted the body heavily which took the steam out of his opponent.

Eventually, the body work would pay dividends as Sosa scored a knock down in the seventh. Delgadillo would barely beat the count and survive the round. He came out the corner showing that he wasn’t done fighting back.

It was an incredible pace that took a lot out of both combatants. In the end, the judges scored it for Sosa in a must-win fight to preserve his career. He earned this win by grinding it out and digging deep.

It was a very good undercard in prelude to the main card.
