Robert Guerrero decision Jerry Thomas!

Former IBF featherweight and junior lightweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero picks up his third straight win since his devastating knockout loss to Omar Figueroa in 2017. This time, he would completely outclass the younger but over-matched Gerald “Jerry” Thomas (14-2-1, 8KO).

Prior, The Ghost told 3kingsboxing.com that his goal was to bring back the old version of himself that lead to him being a two-division champion. He mentioned that being an elusive boxer and not the brawler he has become more recently is what got him his early success.

Guerrero kept his word and Thomas could not figure out how to close the distance as the older former champion cruised to a unanimous decision victory by the scores of 99-91 2x and 98-92.

“I got some rounds in tonight, which was valuable. We got what we needed and boxed our way to victory.

“I want to get back into those bigger fights. I moved around and stayed smart in there tonight. The goal was to stick to the game plan and I did until the end of the fight, but then I got right back on it. You just have to keep working out the kinks and that’s what I’m going to keep doing.

  1. The Ghost could maybe set up a fight with Lopez or Jessie Vargas. I dont see The Ghost standing in with the top guys at 147, even though the top guys are all B level fighters, they are all way better then the faded Ghost. Porter, Thurman, Errol, Danny Garcia, all B level. Crawford and Manny B+. Manny use to be an elite A level fighter, but that was years ago. Unless there is NO DRUG TESTING, then Manny seems to be elite again. Crawford was for sure an elite A level fighter at 140. But that was at 140, not 147. Big difference there. However, I think all the top five at 147 would look like elite A level fighters vs The Ghost. Right now we have a few second tier welter weights, Ghost, Lopez and Vargas. I’d like to see them face off, set up a bigger fight. Lopez v Vargas 2 would be an interesting rematch from their fight back in 2011. Both have gotten slightly better since then. Broner, if the lazy bastard can make weight seems to give a good fight, but no catch weights. we need fights at 147, not 144. Khan is still floating around too. There are some fights that could be made, but these guys on this tier all need to be smart with their selection or they could get knocked down to the bottom of the list. But as far as this second tier of fighters, I think Lopez and Vargas are the top two guys. The Ghost will give them a good fight though.
