Regis Progais vs Devin Haney Set for December 9 in California
Promoter Eddie Hearn proved to be prophetic when he recently said that a deal for a match between WBC junior welterweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs) and unified lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) is imminent. That’s because the bout is now signed and set for December 9. According to ESPN, the contest will occur at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.
For Haney, this is a homecoming bout. The 25-year-old was born and raised in San Francisco and expressed excitement about fighting on home soil on social media:

It’s a fight that has been under discussion for several months. There was an announcement that it would happen on October 28. But Haney had not signed his portion of the contract. That incensed Prograis, who threatened that he would seek other options. But ultimately, all parties have now come to their senses.
Haney’s last outing was a unanimous decision over Vasyl Lomachenko on May 20. Prograis is coming off a split-decision victory over Danielito Zorilla on June 17. Following Prograis’s fight with Zorilla, the junior welterweight champion and Haney engaged in some back-and-forth trash talk.
Prograis is one of the hardest punchers at 140. But the 34-year-old has more than adequate boxing skills and an underrated ring IQ.
Even though Haney is moving up in weight, the California native has struggled to make the 135-pound lightweight limit. The Dream is athletic, quick as a cat, and highly skilled. It’s a matchup greatly anticipated by many fight enthusiasts.
