Underdog Sosa Gets Knockout Over Dickens In Dubai!

Upsets are part of this sport. You had one occur at the Dubai Studio City in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as the unheralded underdog, Hector Sosa (16-2, 9 KOs), scored a one-punch tenth-round knockout over former world title challenger James “Jazza” Dickens (32-5, 12 KOs).

Things looked good for Dickens early on, as he put Sosa down with a left hand in the first minute of the first round. However, despite the rocky start, Sosa began to rally in the third and fourth.

The action was back and forth during the middle rounds. Sosa was able to land with repeated big right hands. Dickens responded in kind with combinations of his own and had an excellent ninth. It seemed that Dickens was starting to gain control.

ONE SHOT BOOM

Conversely, in the first minute of the tenth, Sosa connected with an overhand right hand that put Dickens out cold. The former title challenger was out on his feet before falling like a statue on the floor. Once he hit the canvas, the referee wisely waved the fight over in a highlight-reel KO. Dickens was on the canvas for several minutes before rising to his feet.

Coming into this contest, Dickens was ranked fourth by IBF, eighth by the WBC, and tenth by the WBO at featherweight. But the word in British boxing circles was that he had difficulties making the featherweight limit. That may have played a role in his performance as he looked off his game.

For Sosa, he comes away with a spectacular knockout and the biggest win of his career.
