Keyshawn Davis Seeking Statement Win Over Jose Pedraza

In his next prizefight, lightweight boxer Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (10-0, 6 KO’s) will take on Jose “Sniper” Pedraza (29-5-1, 14 KO’s) on December 9. Naturally, Davis, ranked #8 (WBO), #8 (IBF) and #12 (WBC), is excited about this opportunity as Pedraza will be, by far, the most recognizable and respectable name on his resume. As is the custom of the day, The Businessman took to his social media to express his happiness with the situation that he previously telegraphed.

WHAT’S THE REWARD?

Being the young gun on the come up, the expectation of many will be for Davis, 24, to prevail in the impending duel. Although, the real question is: will a solid victory over Pedraza meaningfully advance The Businessman toward the title shot that he is aching for? Outside of pure name recognition, there is not much that Pedraza, 34, is bringing to the table. To begin, Sniper is ten years Davis’s senior, hasn’t won a bout since 2021 and is moving down from the super lightweight division.

Going a step further, Pedraza is not even ranked at 135 pounds. Yet this should not be surprising for a few reasons. For one, as already mentioned, Sniper is 0-2-1 in his last three matches and he has not competed as a lightweight since May of 2019. Therefore, there is an extremely high probability that he will enter the ring weight drained and compete far from his best. Provided all these glaring deficiencies, one must ponder: what is this victory actually worth, if secured?

Ironically, only Pedraza logically stands to claim a significant advance, if he wins this bout. If he prevails, then without question he will inject new life into his sagging career. And to be honest, even if he loses, but stretches The Businessman to his limit, he will probably secure another favorable prizefight. For Davis however, only a supremely dominant performance will result in any forward progress. And even if Davis thumps Pedraza, it’s not a smart bet to assume he will surge upward in the rankings. Yet, regardless of the outcome, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the latest developing stories.
