Jaime Munguia Secures Late Round Stoppage Over Erik Bazinyan
In a battle of top super middleweight contenders, Jaime Munguia (44-1, 35KO) may have secured another title shot after stopping Erik Bazinyan (32-1-1, 23KO).
Fighting behind the jab, Bazinyan managed to keep the Mexican at bay. He even landed some good overhand rights, taking advantage of the over-aggressiveness of Munguia.
Bazinyan, looking calm and in control of the fight, started landing combination punches before moving out of range. His confidence was rising with each round of success.
Munguia came roaring back in the middle rounds with a body attack that halted Bazinyan’s momentum. As the fight continued, he buzzed the visitor with a perfect left hook counter.
With the championship rounds approaching, the fight was even as the Mexican regained control. In round ten, Munguia shifted gears and found a home for the counter left hook that stunned Bazinyan.
Visibly hurt, Bazinyan went crumbling to the canvas and was counted out as he could not recover. Despite suffering his first defeat, he showed tremendous heart against Munguia.
Ranked #2 by the WBC, Munguia wants to face Caleb Plant or Edgar Berlanga in 2025.
