Natasha Jonas Believes She is Equipped to Overcome IBF Champ Dicaire
On November 11, unified women’s junior middleweight champion Natasha Jonas will face IBF 154-pound champion Marie-Eve Dicaire (18-1, 1 KO) in a unification showdown at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.
BIGGER BUT NOT BETTER
During an interview with a UK source, Boxing Social, the 37-year-old gave some insight on her upcoming opponent. She realizes that the IBF champ will be a challenge, but Jonas feels she has some inherent advantages that will carry her to victory.
“She’s big, she’s a strong girl, and she’s got good footwork, good hands. But I just think that I’m smarter, and I’m faster, and my shot variety is better.”
REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
2022 has been a banner year for Jonas. After competing at 130 and 135 throughout her pro career, Jonas decided to move up to junior middleweight in 2022. The benefits of going up in weight have more than paid off.
In June of 2022, the pride of Liverpool, England scored a surprisingly easy second-round stoppage over Chris Namus to win the vacant WBO title. She followed that up with a decision victory over Patricia Berghult to unify the unified WBO and WBC titles in September 2021.
Against Dicaire, Jonas is facing an experienced southpaw with good boxing skills. The 36-year-old from Quebec, Canada is a two-time champion and has been in the ring with the elite in the sport, as evidenced by her losing effort to three-time undisputed champion Claressa Shields in March 2021.
But the Brit is riding a wave of momentum and looks to be fighting better than ever. Jonas seems to be on a quest to conquer the division. The next fighter she hopes to go through on her mission to rule the division is Dicaire in November.
