Anthony Joshua Just Fighting for his Next Win
For most professional fighters, becoming a world champion is the ultimate dream. Sadly, for the vast majority of professional fighters, it will forever remain a dream and never reality. For two-time heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (24-3, 22 KO’s) however, it was a reality that he’d became quite cozy with.
Even with his trio of losses, it’s been a little over six years since Joshua has competed in a non-title fight. Thanks to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who just beat AJ for the second consecutive time, he’s been relegated back to contender status.
The UK sensation spoke a bit about his feelings on the matter in a recent interview with DAZN:
“I haven’t done it for a while! I don’t know how to explain it, as much as I’m about the hype it is, I am so far from it. And in a way I’ll just fight, no problem. So yeah, it will be interesting but I don’t know how I’ll feel until I am there…but the best feeling for me, regardless of the belts or anything, would just be the feeling of winning again. It will be amazing; personally, not for anyone, not the belts, just for me internally, that feeling of winning is everything!”
STEP ONE
As always, it’s very revealing to see what manner of opposition a fighter assumes upon returning from a loss. In terms of Joshua, 33, he’s rebounding from two defeats. Bearing this in mind, logically speaking, he will likely trade leather with a soft touch. Or, perhaps he might attempt to be more daring.
Provided AJ sought to stage a serious match right out the gate, there is no lack of opponents. First and foremost, there is still one-time WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Wilder and Joshua already have a long and cantankerous relationship with one another. Yet, surly feelings put aside, this would still make for a great fight and would be hungrily devoured by fans in two nations.
There are also serviceable names such as Michael Hunter, Joe Joyce and Luis Ortiz, to rattle off a few more. And of course, there is always the possibility of a tremendous showdown with Tyson Fury. The two have tried to lock horns more than once but couldn’t get the fight over the line. Who knows, maybe 2023 is the year we all get lucky! Regardless of what happens though, 3Kings Boxing will be there to report the news.
