Amir Khan Hints at Retirement Citing Lack of Passion for Boxing

The fight that took forever to finally happen saw former IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (40-3, 27 KO’s) get the one victory he has wanted the most against arch-rival Amir “King” Khan (34-6, 21 KO’s). Khan ponders hanging up the gloves permanently following such a brutal defeat.

Khan got the match with his long-time rival, Kell Brook, On February 19. The fight started at a quick pace and Khan used his hand speed to keep Brook at bay. Special K used his power early, hurting Khan. In the sixth round, Brook pinned Khan against the ropes, and it was bombs away, prompting the referee to step in, bringing their rivalry to a close.

KHAN PONDERING RETIREMENT

Khan did not look right in the fight and during an interview with Sky Sports, the former unified junior welterweight champion spoke of hanging up the gloves.

“Forty fights, I mean a lot of fights, winning two world titles, fighting up and down America, and around the world. I mean, I need to sit down with my family, but I think it is more towards the end of my career now here.

Obviously that love of the sport is not there anymore, like it was before […] I used to have that excitement and that push, but I didn’t have it in me. It felt quite flat, and I think that’s maybe a sign for me to know that I should be calling it a day.”

Although Khan did not openly admit to retiring, the words he spoke are what every fighter says before ultimately realizing it is over. Khan had a great career and enjoyed a high level of success. If this is the end, then we here at 3Kings Boxing want to say thank you for the memories.
