Vasiliy Lomachenko v Teofimo Lopez Rumored to be Done
According to the Athletic, WBA super and WBO world lightweight champion Vasiliy “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KO’s) and IBF world lightweight champion Teofimo “El Brooklyn” Lopez (15-0, 12 KO’s) have finalized their fight. The would-be unification bout was almost dust when Lopez bulked at his proposed new reduced rate. With no live gate to supplement fight costs, it became necessary for everyone to take a cut. Yet, El Brooklyn felt his went a little too deep.
Now it seems that in their behind the scenes game of chicken, the hard-hitting Brooklynite forced Loma to blink first. Apparently, Hi-Tech agreed to sacrifice a portion of his purse in order to fatten Lopez’s a bit more. Having done this, all parties are now content and ready to rumble on October 3 inside the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The official announcement should hit the press shortly.
