Lomachenko undergoes surgery!
After being upset, former unified lightweight champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (14-2, 10KOs) has reportedly undergone surgery on his right shoulder to repair the labrum. He has previously undergone surgery on the same shoulder, which was more severe.
COULD THAT BE THE REASON FOR THE FIRST HALF INACTIVITY?
Lomachenko was surprisingly inactive throughout the first six rounds against Lopez. This would cause him to lose majority of the early rounds. Although he would find that spark and work himself back into the fight, it was too little too late. There was no word prior to the fight that he had sustained any type of injury. However, according to Yahoo’s Kevin Iole, Lomachenko was injured 6 weeks prior to the fight with Lopez and the pain worsened afterwards.
Dr. Neal El Attrache reportedly performed the surgery. There is no timetable on when the Ukrainian fighter will return to the ring. It will be interesting to see how fans and fellow fighters around the world meet with this news. Will this new information drum up interest in a rematch, given that the former champion was not a 100 percent healthy? We shall see!
Kevin Iole of yahoo sports was the first to report the news of Lomachenko’s surgery.
