Lomachenko shoulder injury requires surgery
As previously reported last week, the planned return date of August 25th for Vasyl Lomachenko was pushed back. It was previously revealed by 3KingsBoxing.com during an article immediately following his May 12th victory over Jorge Linares.
Today 3KingsBoxing.com has learned that Lomachenko suffered a torn labrum and will undergo surgery on Wednesday.
The Ukrainian superstar saw renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles earlier today.
After examining Lomachenko, including giving him an MRI, ElAttrache told ESPN: “There is clear evidence that he had a recent dislocation of the shoulder, and the most common injury that happens when there is a dislocation is a tear in the labrum. His is pretty extensive. A typical tear usually goes from about 2 o’clock if you’re looking at the face of a clock down to about 6 o’clock. His goes almost all the way around. I would say he has significant instability of his right shoulder.”
Lomachenko had revealed that he suffered the injury during the second round of his fight against Linares. He was able to overcome the discomfort and prevail however.
It is unclear at this time when we may see the P4P sensation back in the ring. British super middleweight George Groves recently suffered a similar injury and appears to be gonna miss around seven months total as he expected to return in September after suffering his injury in February during the semifinals of the World Boxing Super Series tournament in a bout against Chris Eubank Jr. However, each individual is of course different.
