Mark Tibbs Officially Splits From Billy Joe Saunders

When former WBO super middleweight champion “Superb” Billy Joe Saunders (30-1, 14 KO’s) lost to now unified champion Canelo Alvarez, controversy won the day. After sustaining the impressive damage to his facial bones many accused Saunders of quitting. It was widely believed that he should have braved his injuries and finished the fight. There are also a great number of people who were more forgiving and adopted a “live to fight another day” attitude.

If you were to ask Saunders himself, he put the weight on his chief second Mark Tibbs. In Superb’s opinion it was Tibbs who took it upon himself to bring the contest to an end. Naturally, such an in-congruent conflict is bound to cause some tension in the relationship. Shortly after his prizefight with Canelo, Saunders began hinting at the notion that he may retire. Even to this very day it’s not known what the UK bad boy will do with his boxing career.

FORK IN THE ROAD

While Saunders’ future may be uncertain it’s very clear that he and Tibbs have parted ways. The decorated corner man revealed this in a recent interview with Pep Talk UK. From the tone of things, it appears there is no bad blood between the two. Yet, bad blood or not, their working relationship appears to have come to have run its course.

“I’m not too sure if he will carry on or not. I’ve not had no contact with Billy Joe, no. We haven’t had no contact, I’m not too sure if Billy Joe will continue fighting. I’ve just got to look at what the landscape is at the moment”

“I wish Billy Joe and his family all the best and it was unfortunate that he got his eye socket broke in the eighth round.”

When asked if they would still work together, Tibbs simply replied: “No.”

It will be interesting to see if Saunders continues his career or not. If so, who will helm his corner? Until the answers materialize we’ll just have to wait to see what happens. Yet, when more updates are available then 3kingsboxing will be there to report the news!
