Martinez v Calleros

In only two punishing rounds, WBC world flyweight champion Julio “El Rey” Martinez (17-1, 13 KO’s) steamrolled Moises “Taz” Calleros (33-10-1, 17 KO’s). The fight stood as Martinez’s second title defense and snapped a two-year, five fight wins streak for Calleros.

Originally, El Rey was set to fight Maximino Flores, but that was before Flores tested positive for COVID19. While the fight was a title bout, only Martinez was eligible to claim the title as Taz was unable to make weight.

NEVER HAD A CHANCE

Right from the start, it was clear that the overmatched Taz was in for a long night. Virtually everything that the switch-hitting Martinez threw was connecting and taking a visible toll. In a fact, a right hook, left hook two-piece caused Calleros’ legs to buckle and glove touch the ground in the very first round. After the eight count, the patient and methodical WBC champion resumed his unmerciful whipping.

Somewhat surprisingly, Taz was able to make it out of the first period. Although, he did not make it much further than that! The second round picked up where the first round thumping ended. While Taz did not go down again, Martinez blasted him at will to the head and body and from the orthodox and southpaw stance. Many of his head shots rolled Calleros’ head around like he had a bad case of baby neck.

After being pent against the ropes, and eating more lethal shots than the extras in a John Wick flick, referee Cesar Castanon was forced to jump in and stop the annihilation.
