Mayweather will make his transition to MMA at the end of 2018!
The undefeated, sure-fire hall of famer, that has dominated the professional ranks of boxing for two decades will make his transition to MMA at the end of the year!
Floyd Mayweather will fight for a Japanese based mixed martial arts organization called “Rizin Fighting Federation”. Better known as “Rizin”, it is a byproduct of Nobuyuki Sakakibara, the former President of the famed Pride Fighting Championships.
His opponent will be the Tenshin Nasukawa (13-0). The 20 year-old undefeated kick-boxer who just defeated Kyoji Horiguchi in September by unanimous decision.
At 5’5″ and fighting within the MMA Flyweight division (125lbs or 56.7 kg), Mayweather would clearly be the much bigger man. However, since this is MMA, his size advantage may not make much of a difference.
In addition, the 41 year-old will not be Nasukawa’s first match-up with a former boxing champion. In February 2017, he knocked out former IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng in the fourth round.
Though retired, die-hard boxing fans still hold Ruenroeng in high regard. In 21 fights, he boasts wins over John Riel Casimero, Zou Shiming, McWilliams Arroyo and three-division champion Kazuto Ioka.
While the five-division champion has a much more accomplished boxing career than Ruenroeng, he is an example of how difficult the adjustment to MMA can be.
This is a “Custom Rules Bout” set to take place on New Years Eve at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan!
