Michael Hunter on Dillian Whyte and the Division

Let him tell it, rising heavyweight contender Michael “The Bounty” Hunter (18-1-1, 12 KO’s) says he is being avoided by many of the top fighters. When last in the ring, he received an unfavorable draw against Alexander “Russian Vityaz” Povetkin (35-2-1, 24 KO’s) in a bout that most felt Hunter won. Now Povetkin has an upcoming prizefight with Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte (27-1. 18 KO’s).

LEFT OUT IN THE COLD

Ironically, or perhaps not, the Bounty feels he should be the one tangling with either of the two combatants. He would have loved to get his rematch with Povetkin. Alternatively, since most think that he should have gotten the nod with Povetkin, he thinks that Whyte should be facing him instead of the Russian. Yet, when it’s all said and done, Hunter understands this is all about business, as he told to Blue Blood Sports TV in an exclusive interview.

“Or he [Whyte] could have even mentioned me, he could have threw my name in there and then went and to [Povetkin], I think that would have been the better move. Throw me in there like you would fight me, but then you know pick Povetkin. But you know I think it was a business move, I can’t be mad it, I see it for what it is, it is what it is.”

“I’m the boogeyman, that was from his own promoter, that he speaks to obviously more than me right now. I am waiting for the phone call. They already got they fight, so I am patiently waiting. ”

OTHER BIG FIGHTS

Even while he does think he should be in against Whyte or Povetkin, Hunter is not sitting around crying into his soup bowl. He knows that his career is on an upward swing and he also recognizes that there are many more live bodies in the division.

“There are other money fights for me to fight, you know, so maybe the rematch will come…and there will be a bigger statement to make. I feel like I have a few rematches that I can do. Povetkin, Usyk and then I got Martin Bakole. So these are all different fights that I see potential, you know, big fight in the end.”
