Michael Hunter set to return

3kingsboxing has learned that former WBO NABO Cruiserweight champion Michael Hunter (14-1, 9 KOs) will face undefeated heavyweight prospect Martin Bakole Ilunga (11-0, 8 KOs).

Hunter (30), a Las Vegas residence, is finally getting more active. His fight against undefeated fighter Oleksandr Usyk was his only match in 2017. Since losing that fight, he has moved up to heavyweight and is currently on a two-fight win streak. His performance in the Usyk bout was good, however, considering he was coming off a long layoff.

Ilunga is a Democratic Republic Of Congo boxer currently fighting out of the United Kingdom. He is most popular for his sparring sessions with fellow heavyweight prospect stablemate Daniel Dubois. The undefeated IBO Continental heavyweight titlist is considered by many as the next British top heavyweight.

This contest between the two future heavyweight contenders is a very good fight.

Hunter has the better resume, carrying wins over fighters like Iago Kiladze, Deon Elam and Isiah Thomas. He also fought at super-heavyweight in the amateurs, so he brings a solid foundation of experience to the heavyweight division.

Ilunga’s knock-out victory over undefeated heavyweight Ali Baghouz in a step-up fight was impressive.

It is also worth noting that he has sparred with former world champion Tyson Fury and current undefeated unified champion Anthony Joshua.

Hunter will be fighting outside the US for the first time in his career while Ilunga will enjoy the home field advantage.

This fight will be at York Hall, Bethnal Green on Oct. 13th on the undercard of IBO female champion Chantelle Cameron vs Tatiana Santana.
