Jarrell Miller Possible Front Runner for WBA Regular Title

Miller vs Oquendo Possible

Miller considered to face Fres Oquendo should Manuel Charr be stripped of the title

As previously reported, a positive test submitted by WBA champion Manuel Charr has cancelled his title defense against Fres Oquendo.

Charr requested a ‘B’ sample be tested which would not be available in time for their scheduled bout of September 29. Should his sample return a positive result, the WBA already has future plans for the vacant title.

The #4 ranked heavyweight from Brooklyn, Jarrell Miller, is being primed to face Oquendo if the title becomes vacant. However, Miller must first defeat former two-weight champion Tomasz Adamek October 6 before being considered a likely candidate for the title.

If this comes to fruition, there is a possibility Miller will be in line to face Anthony Joshua in April. If fans recall, the unified champion already has the April 13 date set aside. Becoming the WBA regular champion will give him the opportunity to claim a shot at the super title.

Oquendo on the other hand is forced to play the waiting game at age 46. Since losing a controversial majority decision to then champion Ruslan Chagaev in 2014, he has been promised another shot.

3kingsboxing.com spoke with representatives of Team Oquendo who mentioned a statement on the matter will be released soon.
