Emanuel Navarrete is Willing to Fight Rey Vargas in a Unification Battle!
The options for WBO 126-pound champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete (36-1, 30KOs) are plentiful. Vaquero stopped Eduardo Baez in six rounds to win a more competitive fight than most expected. Now questions have arisen about what’s next for the two-division world champ.
The Mexican champion has the option of possible unification bouts against fellow champions in his division, if he decides to stay put. While politics plays a part in fights happening or not happening, interesting matchups between the four champions are there. You have IBF champ Josh Warrington, WBA champ Leo Santa Cruz, and lastly, newly crowned WBC champ Rey Vargas (36-0, 22KOs). Vargas just defeated Mark Magsayo to win the belt in July.
DOUBTS ON THE BOUT
All fights involving Vaquero would be exciting. However, the appeal of a fight with Vargas is that both men are tall for the division and have fan-friendly styles. Their Mexican style of combat also figures this to be an action-packed contest. But if you ask Navarrete about it, while he’s interested, he doesn’t think it can be made.
“Well yeah, it would be an interesting fight. I think all Mexicans and a lot of people in boxing would look forward to that fight and want that fight. It’s interesting for me because we’re both Mexicans. I think the style will make it a good fight, if I fight him. But, I don’t know how probable that fight is to be made. “
With Navarrete being promoted by Top Rank and Vargas fighting on PBC, in order for this fight to happen, it would have to be negotiated. As most know, Bob Arum and Al Haymon don’t always see eye to eye. Unfortunately, that means we’re unlikely to see this fight.
