Diego Pacheco vs Hamzah Sheeraz Possible Post McCumby Win
While it wasn’t his most electrifying outing, top-ranked super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco did what was necessary to earn a clear unanimous decision (120-108, 119-109, 119-109) over Trevor McCumby at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas. The victory keeps the 24-year-old firmly in the title conversation and potentially on a collision course with England’s surging star, Hamzah Sheeraz.
If there’s one word to describe Pacheco’s performance, it’s workmanlike. Against McCumby’s physical, grinding style, Pacheco (24-0, 19 KOs) relied on ring IQ, a sharp left jab, and crisp counterpunching to control the action from start to finish. Even with a cut over his left eye early in the fight, McCumby (28-2, 21 KOs) simply couldn’t match Pacheco’s skillset or work-rate.
Following the bout, Pacheco made it clear he’s ready for anyone in the top ten at 168 pounds. Insiders believe a showdown with Sheeraz could be next. The Brit is coming off a dominant fifth-round stoppage win over Edgar Berlanga on July 12, and a matchup between him and Pacheco has all the ingredients for a potential Fight of the Year candidate.
Both are tall, technically sound, and pack real power in both hands. For hardcore fight fans, a Pacheco vs Sheeraz clash would be a dream matchup. Should negotiations progress, expect fireworks possibly this fall, and likely on U.S. soil.
