Caleb Plant becomes the new IBF super middleweight champion

IBF super middleweight champion Jose Uzcategui put his IBF title on the line against undefeated Caleb Plant, who was looking to fulfill a life long dream.

To the surprise of many, this fight started with the challenger coming out aggressive.

Plant used the jab to the body and mixed it up early. He was also showing superior footwork and keeping the champion confused and uncomfortable.

The challenger even landed a left hook that floored Uzcategui in the second round. While, this was more of a balance issue, he later got a solid knock down utilizing the same punch in round four.

Uzcategui was in defensive mode looking to land one big punch. He was having some success landing the straight right, but he needed to do more. With the two knock downs, he had a hill to climb in the fight.

In the middle rounds, the challenger was sharp with his counter-punching as he never let the champion gain momentum. The champ would land some big punches, but they had little affect and he seemed to be slowing down. While in close, he would stand bent over as if the body shots were having affect.

The Championship Rounds

In the championship rounds, the Uzcategui was able to catch his second wind. He had more success than ever in the fight landing the right hand. He knew a knockout was the only way to retain the title and tried to do just that.

However, the challenger was determined. He was using the jab with body shots and superior defensive footwork when it looked as if he was too tired to prevent the champ from capitalizing with follow-up shots.

In the end, the work “Sweet Hands” put in early allowed him to get his hands raised! The official scorecards were 116-110 twice and 115-111.

3kingsboxing.com scored the fight 116-110 for the new champion.
