Arturo Cardenas is a Junior Featherweight Prospect on the Rise

Mexico is known throughout the boxing community for its storied history and tradition. The country has a long and storied history of fighters coming up to make a big splash on the international scene and win world titles. Junior featherweight prospect Arturo Cardenas (12-0-1, 10 KOs) hopes to be the next to do the same.

Cardenas loved the sport from the time he was a young boy. As a youth, he was on the Mexican National Amateur Team. But after turning professional in October 2021, the pride of Sahuayo de Morelos, Michoacan, Mexico began to make a name for himself, fighting in Mexico and southern California. Trained by the highly-regarded Robert Garcia, Cardenas has shown steady progress.

KEEPING HIM BUSY

Activity is vital for a young fighter to get comfortable and gain experience. That has been the case for Cardenas, who fought eleven times from January 2022 to December 2023. A highlight performance from Cardenas during that time was an impressive fourth-round stoppage over the tough Carlos Mujica on December 2023 on the undercard of the flyweight unification showdown between Jesse Rodriguez and Sunny Edwards.

Cardenas’s most recent fight occurred on February 16 on the undercard of the rematch between Adrian Curiel and Sivenathi Nontshinga. Facing the durable Ernesto Garcia Flores, Cardenas was given a tough go but was able to outwork and outbox Flores on the way to a unanimous decision win.

A COOL CUSTOMER

3kingsboxing.com was able to view Cardenas versus Flores. The impressive aspect of Cardenas’s game is that he’s a fighter with a pretty complete arsenal, offensively.

A smooth combination puncher, the 23-year-old has solid boxing ability from a distance and excellent skills on the inside. In the late rounds, he was able to make adjustments – a sign of his ring IQ. His style, patience, and maturity in the ring remind some boxing observers of world-ranked junior middleweight contender Vergil Ortiz Jr..

For 2024, the handlers of Cardenas want to step up the level of competition and have him fight in more ten-round contests. You can see the natural talent and maturity of Cardenas whenever he fights. With Garcia guiding the ship and steady improvement from the young man, he’s someone to watch in the lower-weight divisions.
