Former WBO 168-pound champion Gilberto Ramirez Returns on May 14!
As he looks to stay in position for a world title opportunity in the light heavyweight division, former WBO 168-pound champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (43-0, 29KOs) makes his 2022 ring debut against Dominic Boesel (32-2, 12KOs) on May 14, live on DAZN. The fight will take place in Ontario, California.
Ramirez, who’s ranked # 2 in the WBO and WBA and # 4 in the IBF, is seeking to become a two-division world champion. The unbeaten Mexican will look to defy the challenge of WBC #5 ranked contender Boesel. Boesel once held the WBA 175-pound interim title before losing it to Robin Krasniqi by a third-round knockout. However, he would bounce back in the rematch, securing a split decision win last October.
It’s been quite a frustrating time for Ramirez and fans of his. He’s been seeking a fight with WBA 175-pound champion Dimitry Bivol. He also accused Team Bivol of hiding from him. With the Russian champion set to defend his title against 168-pound undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez on May 7, Zurdo has to continue to be patient.
With him being ranked in the top two of the WBO and WBA, a world title opportunity is extremely close. As long as he continues his winning ways, he should be in a position to fight for a world title later this year or at some point in 2023.
