Robeisy Ramirez Wants to Unify with the Lopez vs Conlan Winner

Skills paid the bills for Robeisy Ramirez (12-1, 7 KOs) as he out-boxed one-time junior featherweight champion Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe (24-3, 15 KOs) by a unanimous decision (117-110, 118-109, 119-108) to win the vacant WBO featherweight title. Now Ramirez seems to have his eyes set on becoming a unified champion.

THE RESURRECTION

A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Ramirez defected from his native country and signed with Top Rank. Many observers expected immediate success for the 28-year-old. But in his pro debut, Ramirez suffered a shocking split decision loss to Adan Gonzalez in December 2018.

It was at that point that Ramirez looked inward and made some changes. He hooked up with famed trainer Ismael Salas and rededicated himself. Since the loss to Gonzalez, Ramirez has steadily improved. The culmination of his hard work and newfound commitment to the craft was on full display in his win over the Royal Storm. Following the victory over Dogboe, Ramirez said he’s on a mission to fight the best at 126.

“I want all the smoke . . . Luis Alberto Lopez or Mick Conlan. Whoever they want to put in front of me, I want all the great fights.”

WHAT COULD BE IN STORE DOWN THE ROAD

It is no coincidence that Ramirez mentioned Lopez and Conlan. Lopez (27-2, 15 KOs) is the IBF featherweight champion. He makes his first title defense against Michael “Mick” Conlan (18-1-1, 9 KOs) on May 27 in Conlan’s home country of Ireland.

Top Rank is the promoter of Conlan and Ramirez. Should Conlan pull off the victory, it’s easy to envision a possible Ramirez – Conlan fight at some point in 2024. One would guess the promotional giant would have no issues putting Ramirez in the ring with Lopez were he to defeat Conlan. Whoever is in Ramirez’s future, he is finally fighting up to his potential, and it could spell a lot of trouble for the featherweight division.
