Rolando Romero Remains Focused on a Fight With Tank Davis

During the second half of 2021, lightweight boxer Rolando “Rolly” Romero (14-0, 12 KO’s) had penned a bout with Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (26-0, 24 KO’s). Provided that everything went as scheduled, that would have been his biggest professional fight to date. Regrettably for him, Rolando would become ensnared in legal controversy when he was accused of a number of allegations of sexual misconduct.

When all the dust settled on his legal issues, Rolly’s name was exonerated and the investigation into the matter was dismissed. Yet, even though his name was cleared, in the chaos of the accusations coming to light, Rolly was pulled from the card and lost his big fight. Thankfully, even though the whole ordeal cost him mightily, Romero was thankful for the overall experience.

“It all comes to what you project in your life, your mind projects how you view the world. I viewed it as it was nothing because it was nothing, and so I was able to stay optimistic throughout this entire thing. Honestly, I think that those three, four months that I really took away from boxing, I think it’s been the most beneficial things towards me because it gave me a break from boxing […] Now, I’m fresh.”

CLEAR MIND, LASER FOCUS

Now that that chapter has been formally closed, the controversial pugilist wanted it to be very well known that he still wants Tank!

“And now I am back, I’m mandatory and the fight has to happen because if it doesn’t happen, that mean he clearly was a pussy!”

And as only he can, Rolly explained to FightHype just exactly why he doesn’t have the greatest respect for Tank!

“I mean what, you make a fucking career of bullying 126-pounders and weight drained opponents like [Jose] Pedraza, weight drained! [Mario] Barrios, weight drained! Leo Santa Cruz, a 122-pounder, [Hugo] Ruiz, 22-pounder and he was going to fight Abner Mares, 126-pounder […] now he’s going to fight a massive dude! I’m pretty big for my weight, if not one of the biggest people in my weight and by far the hardest puncher in the world!”

ARE YOU YELLOW?

Clearly, Rolly is the same guy he always was and he is still very focused on revisiting the Tank fight! So, let’s see if Team Davis is still as willing to lace up the gloves and go to war. Yet, in case they are not, Rolly has aired out his feelings on that as well!

“It has to happen, I am [the] mandatory and if it doesn’t happen we clearly know who is a pussy!”
