Ryan Garcia Assures Fans he Is Taking the Haney Fight Seriously
With his upcoming showdown against WBC junior welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15KO), challenger “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20KO), informed fans that his recent antics are a ploy.
QUESTIONABLE PROFESSIONALISM
The boxing community is beginning to wonder if Garcia is taking the fight seriously, given his recent behavior. He has been on social media calling out MMA fighter Sean O’Malley and beefing with actor Shia Labeouf.
Haney has accused the Californian of doing hard drugs. Whether it’s true or not, a video that has gone viral of Garcia slurring his words, claiming to be high in an interview, didn’t help things. It has boxing fans raising their eyebrows.
The Dream feels that his long-time arch-rival is wasting everyone’s time and has threatened to forgo the upcoming press conference.
He would later have a change of heart and took to social media to inform fans he would be in attendance.
TAKING THE FIGHT SERIOUSLY
The two rivals are scheduled to step inside the squared circle in Brooklyn, New York, on April 20. Realizing his social media outbursts were having a negative effect on the fans, Garcia informed the boxing public that it was all an act via Instagram.
“Look guys, I understand that everybody is concerned, but at the end of the day, I gotta address some things. Ninety-nine percent of the things I’m doing is trolling, I’m running eight miles right now at six in the morning. …being an idiot doesn’t produce strength. Hard work does.”
Ryan Garcia
King Ry ended the video by assuring fans they would get a sneak peek of his fight preparation. Hopefully, this provides some relief to those who were concerned about his level of dedication.
